God said that eternal life is a GIFT from Him.

Since it is a 'gift', then an unrepentant person will definitely not be given the 'gift of eternal life' ...even in a hell.

So what does the eternal fire refer to?

....knowing, at resurrection from physical death & facing judgement, that eternal existence is possible....but being denied it forever...symbolized as a fire consuming that hope forever....the torment of the last thought & words of a dying individual person "I do not want to die, I want FREEDOM to live, FREEDOM to exist, FREEDOM to do 'my will'!"

...but FREEDOM no more.

Death is Not the devil's big gun...FREEDOM is.

Many believe that death is the big gun in the devil’s arsenal.
They are incorrect.
Death was set in place by the 1God because every intent of man's heart was evil. God said that His Spirit would not strive with man forever, since even when He, in His longsuffering, gave man a 900 year span of physical life, man still rejected His Spirit in favor to do his own will for his self interests. The consequence was the limit (i.e. death) of physical life at 120 years.
The big gun in the devil's arsenal is instead the deception that he presented to Eve. The devil asked Eve "is it true that you can ( have absolute FREEDOM) to take of ANY of the trees?"
It is for this FREEDOM to define & justify (know) good and evil in one's own eyes so as to serve and magnify oneself that Eve DISOBEYED the 1God, believing that with this self claimed FREEDOM she would, as the devil said, "surely not die" and that she would be like ( i.e. equal) to God.
It is FREEDOM that is the devil's big gun.
But this "FREEDOM' is in fact DISOBEDIENCE to the Will of the 1Creator.
